Safe zones and caption limits

• Top safe zone: keep about 250 px clear for the profile name and audio tag.
• Bottom safe zone: keep about 420 px clear for the caption, call to action and action buttons.
• Side safe zone: keep about 60 px clear on each side.
• Caption: 2,200 characters, with about 125 shown before the fold.
• Hashtags: up to 30, though 3 to 5 is ideal.

Best practice for Instagram Reels

• Keep text and logos in the central safe band. The top 250 px and bottom 420 px are covered by the username, audio tag, caption and action buttons.
• Deliver full 9:16. Anything 4:5 or square is pillarboxed and looks dated in the Reels feed.
• Set a custom 1080 x 1920 cover frame. It is also cropped to 1:1 on the profile grid, so keep the subject centred.
• Trending or original audio is a ranking signal, so add a track rather than posting silent.

Export recipe

Export 1080 x 1920 px at 9:16, 30 fps (up to 60), using H.264 or HEVC, MP4, and aim for 10 to 15 Mbps. Upload the highest-quality master allowed, keep key content inside the safe zone, and confirm the limits on the in-app upload screen, since platform specs change.
