Complexity covers lights, shadows, post FX and overdraw. More effects leave fewer triangles in budget.

Pro Tips
Draw calls bite before triangles. On mobile and web, batching and material count often cap you sooner than raw poly count.
Build LODs from the start. A distant asset at full detail wastes the whole frame's budget.
Normal maps over geometry. Bake small detail into maps. Keep silhouettes in mesh, surface detail in textures.
Offline is different. For CGI stills and film, subdivision and displacement matter more than a hard triangle cap.

About Polygon Budget Calculator
Polygon Budget Calculator is a free, browser-based tool from XO3D Labs. Estimate polygon and triangle budgets for WebGL, mobile, desktop, console and CGI scenes, with per-asset LOD guidance and draw-call headroom. It is built for 3D artists, CGI generalists and technical artists, runs entirely in your browser with no signup or install, and is one of 70 free tools in the Labs suite.
What it does
Polygon Budget Calculator estimates a practical triangle and polygon budget for real-time 3D, WebGL, mobile, desktop, console and CGI viewport work. It splits the scene budget into hero, standard, filler and LOD-floor targets, then shows draw-call headroom, approximate vertices, assumptions and optimisation checks.
How to use it
Choose real-time or offline CGI, pick the platform, set the frame-rate target, scene complexity, number of visible assets and hero-asset share. The result updates instantly in the browser with no signup, upload or email gate. Copy Summary exports the budget, assumptions and next checks as a modelling handoff.
How to read the result
Use the number as an early art-budget and modelling brief, not a guarantee of final performance. Test on the real target device or browser, then refine by profiling draw calls, materials, transparency, shadows, texture memory, animation and LOD behaviour.
